Inlays & Onlays

Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and onlays are restorative treatments that fall between a traditional filling and a dental crown, designed to repair damaged or decayed teeth.

Inlays are used to cover the indented center of a tooth, while onlays extend to cover one or more of the tooth’s rounded edges. Commonly used on molars and premolars, inlays and onlays can be crafted from composite resin, porcelain, or metal materials. At Hayes Barton Dentistry, Dr. Charlotte Hunt helps patients choose the most suitable restoration to maintain the health and function of their teeth.

Am I a Candidate for Inlays and Onlays?

Inlays and onlays are ideal for patients with damage or decay that is too extensive for a filling but doesn’t require the full coverage of a crown. During your dental exam, Dr. Hunt will evaluate your tooth and review digital X-rays to determine the best treatment.

If an inlay or onlay is recommended, you’ll discuss material options and whether a same-day restoration (created in-office using advanced technology) or a lab-created restoration fits your needs.
